With the ability to generate 3D images and examine bag contents from every angle, CT technology is undoubtedly an exciting prospect for the future of checkpoint security.  It is the only technology which can currently meet C3 (and in the future C4) compliance to the European Explosives Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage standards.  But is it always the right upgrade choice?  This paper explores the options.

Capability Manager CXS Since 2005 Hans-Joachim coordinates the entire lifecycle management of Smiths Detections conventional x-ray systems. Under his responsibility Smiths Detection developed the world’s first automatic explosive and liquid detection system aTiX, which is now also the first and only system to receive ECAC EDS cabin baggage C1 approval. He first joined the company in 1993 as development engineer and later held different roles in Product Management. Hans-Joachim holds a master degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Electrical and Communications Engineering.
